Despite the best efforts of authoritarian Republican legislators and elected officials to abuse the power of their offices, prevent Montana voters from exercising their constitutional right to bring amendments at the ballot box, and ever even getting a chance to vote yay or nay on the abortion rights issue, regular voters and Montana citizens have prevailed over the self-appointed gatekeepers. The initiative received far more than the required number of signatures to appear on our ballot in November, advanced through the courts in several lawsuits against the Republican obstructionism thanks in no small part to the legal efforts of Democratic Lt. Gov. candidate Raph Graybill, and has now been certified hallelujah. It’s a victory for advocates of personal freedoms as well as those who cherish the rights written in our state’s constitution.
But the work isn’t done until CI-128 is approved.
