On three occasions during August 2024 Donald Trump admitted he lost the 2020 election, while claiming it was only “by a whisker”. In a parallel universe where “a whisker” is defined as a popular loss by 7,000,000 votes and a 306-232 electoral college smackdown which Trump himself called one of the biggest landslides ever when he scored the same margin of victory over Hillary Clinton in 2016.
“‘He beat us by a whisker. It was a terrible thing,’ Trump said of President Joe Biden during a 45 minute interview Aug. 4 with podcaster Lex Fridman. He used similar language at an Aug. 30 Moms for Liberty summit and an Aug. 23 event at the Southern border.”
Now some right wing figures are blasting Trump for his betrayal that throws January 6 criminals under the bus. Which of course no one could have predicted based on Trump’s past treatment of anyone dumb enough to trust him.
“White nationalist Nick Fuentes blasted Trump sept. 4 for admitting that he lost the 2020 election, and said that he will work to get voters not to back Trump.
‘So, why did we do Stop the Steal? Why did anyone go to Jan. 6? Why did any one go to jail? … It would have been good to know that before 1,600 people got charged,’ Fuentes said on his podcast, referring to the criminal charges for those who invaded and ransacked the Capitol. ‘It would’ve been good to know that before I had all my money frozen, put on a no-fly list, banned from everything, lost all my bank and payment processing.'”
While it is impossible to feel sorry for a guy like Nick Fuentes in any possible scenario it might be possible to feel a small twinge for fellow Montanans who were sucked in by the master liar’s lies and got themselves in legal trouble for insurrection related crimes of January 6, simply because they are fellow Montanans. Guys like the two brothers from East Helena, the business owner from Dillon, the Bourbon Chicken owner from here in Great Falls, and perhaps others. If you know any of these people be sure to let them know how sorry you are that they like so many before them were duped by Trump.
